ABOUT THINKING AHEAD
Thinking Ahead Extension Workshops began offering workshops and holiday programs in Western Australia in 2002. They quickly became very popular with more than 100 children aged between 4 and 12 years of age particpating each holidays.
Thinking Ahead has also provided support for parents and teachers in the form of education planning, strategies and information about giftedness.
A number of successful conferences and seminars have been organised and run by Derrin over the years since 2004 with Professional Learning opportunities for teachers and schools also provided on site in city and regional schools.
Who is involved?
Derrin Cramer started Thinking Ahead in 2001 to provide opportunities for her daughters to mix with other gifted children and explore ideas not covered in school. She moved to Perth in 2003 and Thinking Ahead has grown and expanded since then.
She worked as a consultant to parents and teachers in the area of gifted education providing support and professional learning opportunities, in addition to organising holiday programs for bright and gifted children.
Derrin taught for 10 years in the Mid West region and established the gifted and talented program in the Primary School at St Stephen's School in Duncraig where she worked as part of their award winning team until the end of 2005. She also taught in the GERRIC Poppyseeds program in Sydney.
Derrin holds a Certificate of Gifted Education (Distinction) from UNSW, completed her M Ed (Gifted and Talented) in 2007. She has represented WA at the national level as a member or Director of the Australian Association for the Education of the Gifted and Talented (AAEGT) since 2004. She also currently serves as the webmaster for IRATDE, the International Research Assocation for Talent Development and Excellence.
She has 2 gifted daughters.
Changes in 2011
In 2011 there were some changes to the way information and support was offered. Holiday programs are now organised by Quest Lifelearning.
Family consultations were also available with Tracy Taylor who has worked with Derrin for some time.
2012
Derrin published 2 books for parents which offer more ways for parents and teachers to access information and begin their gifted journey. A limited number of face to face (or telephone) consultations were available with Derrin once again.
