Tuesday 9th February 7-8.30pm Bright Child or Gifted? Does the Difference Matter? Educators and parents alike wonder if they’re providing the best for their students and children. What do our children need in order to flourish, and how do we tailor what we give each to meet their needs? Dr Ruf is a high-intelligence specialist who has developed tools and strategies to discover the strengths, weaknesses, talents and interests in our children, so that we adults can arrange their environment to bring out and nurture the best in all of them. Dr Ruf will outline the levels of intelligence and highlight the spectrum of giftedness in children. Social Sciences Lecture Theatre, UWA. Tuesday 16th February 7-8.30pm How Schools Teach the Smartest Kids to be Underachievers. Why do so many smart people not fulfill their promise? Dr Deborah Ruf is the author of the award-winning book, “Five Levels of Gifted” (formerly titled “Losing our Minds: Gifted Children Left Behind”). The book presents test data of a large sample of children classified into five levels of giftedness based on behaviours and development milestones. In this presentation, Ruf will use the levels of giftedness, test data and years of professional experience to explain why so many smart people do not fulfill their potential and how this might be avoided. Do you have what it takes to nurture your child's special and unique talents? What's the best way to effectively approach and work with your child's school? Dr. Ruf will answer these questions and others you bring up yourselves during this parenting session. Presentation to be held at Milligan House, Bunbury.
